So Worth It.....

I tell ya, becoming an overnight mom at 30-something, to a 13 month old baby is a serious crash course in life.  And it's not for the faint of heart.  I could have never prepared myself for this experience.  And trust me, I'm a planner and a preparer.  Or just a control freak?  Nope, none of the preparation I did made a difference.  I had to chuckle the other night as I was creeping up the stairs (close to midnight) to go to bed, and I thought about HOW much my (our) lives have changed in the last month.  In so many ways.

One of my biggest challenges.  My house.  If you stop by without notice, I cannot guarantee what you will find laying around my house, or what condition it will be in.  ***THIS IS A WARNING***

For example, if you decide to use our guest bathroom, which is now where Maddyx does his baths, you just might find the diaper he was wearing the evening before that I took off before I put him into the bath tub.  I might have been trying to keep him from doing a face plant, when he was jumping over the tub head first into the water.  In the midst of this, I forgot to pick up, close the diaper and throw it away.  Sorry.  I'll get to it.  Eventually.

You just might find cheerios, dried up rice, cheese (no wait, no cheese. Cooper likes cheese so he eats that), cucumber, banana, or anything of this nature on my floors.  Even though I swept them twice already.  Maddyx eats three meals a day and I can't seem to bring myself to have the energy to sweep up after the third meal.  And Cooper only eats what he likes.  Maybe I should start planning Maddyx's meals accordingly?  Hmmm.  That's a thought.

You might find bottles, well, just about everywhere.  Uuuugh, the bottles.  They're never-ending.  I hate them.  And then when you need one at the early hour of 4am and you were too lazy to wash the dirty ones the night before.  Yea, that sucks.

If you decide to look for a dvd inside the cabinet of our tv console, you're likely to find a stash of diapers and wipes instead.  Sorry, but it's super convenient.

Toys.  Toys everywhere.  I also clean these up several times a day.  Why do I bother?  Because, it makes me feel better to have a grown-up living room that's free and clear of toys.  Even if it is just for 30 minutes while he naps.

Laundry.  Piles and piles of laundry.  Confined to my room of course.  So please, do not go in there!  For the record, there are two things that I hate to do around the house.  Dishes and laundry.  I had a hard enough time doing my own laundry before baby.  In a perfect 'dream' world, I would just buy a new outfit, wear it once, and never have to wash it.  Ever.  I know, ridiculous.  Don't judge.  (I'd also have freshly washed sheets on my bed every single night.  Isn't that the best?)  So now I find myself doing Maddyx's laundry constantly. Yes, I actually do it.  But guess what?  I haven't done my own laundry since we returned from Korea.  Really.  And I'm currently unemployed, so buying new outfits is not an option.

And then, at the end of the day, I look at this face and I know it's all worth it.  So worth it!

  2. we must be living in the same house!!
leaving dirty diapers left open - guilty
(leaving the wipe container open and drying out the top wipe - also guilty)
bottles are a total challenge - leo just likes the TWO from korea
and i hate laundry - especially the folding and putting away part

but...that face...THAT FACE is way more fun to look at, laugh with, and enjoy the company of than all those chores. keep up the good work michelle!

  3. OMG, that FACE! Yup, so worth it!!! But I have to say I relate to every.single.thing you say in this post. I stopped cleaning up the living room during naps though - what's the point? But as soon as he's down at night I do need to create an adult zone and shove everything back in his toy bins. Luckily our dog will eat anything - thank God! But the laundry? It's truly never ending ... I am so impressed that you have not run out of underwear since you got back from Korea!! Oh and about the bottles? You clearly need to buy some more to have on hand because it's NOT COOL to have to wash one out at 4am! :)

  8. Ummm, we are living the same life. I just looked at my laundry pile and there's stuff in there from WAY too long ago. And, I just put in two loads for Wesley!!! Don't even get me started on the house. The hardwood floors are a must just because he's still doing some crawling, but other than that - there is so much that has fallen by the wayside that it makes me ill sometimes. Maddyx is such a doll. I love the crooked smile - precious.
